The Fees must fall was a Student Protest movement in South Africa in response to government Fee Hikes in Universities across the country.
Merits:
1. The movement helped reduce the burden on students belonging to middle-income and low-income families who were already struggling to meet fees.
2. The movement was successful in repealing the fee hike
Demerits:
1. The movement quickly escalated into widespread protests nationwide and eventually lead to violence and destruction of public property. The protests caused more than $44 million worth of damage
2. The Fees Must Fall movement also resulted in internal disagreements and was hijacked by political parties which resulted in the movement eventually losing momentum.

Fees Must Fall was a student led movement that began in mid October 2015, led by the South African universities. The merits and demerits of the protest were:
Merits.
1) The decision of fees increasing was rolled back and there were no fees increase. Additionally, more funding services were increased in universities during that year.
2) In order to fulfill the expenses of university, the university received money from many organizations as a support for the fee rising.
Demerits.
1) Students could get signed out from the university. They could get caught for their campaign.
2. They missed their lectures in the time of turmoil and took part in campaign which resulted a loss to their studies.
