The mantle, which makes up about 84% of Earth’s volume has several distinct characteristics. All BUT ONE is a characteristic of the mantle.

A) Movement in the mantle is expressed at Earth's surface by the motions of tectonic plates.

B) The upper, rigid mantle layer is composed of dense material such as iron magnesium silicate igneous rocks, like basalt.
C) The mantle is chemically distinct from the crust, is different in terms of rock types as well as seismic characteristics.

D) The uppermost mantle and the overlying crust form the lithosphere, which is relatively rigid at the top but becomes noticeably more plastic beneath.
