The worst case scenario is when you tell the supervisor that your friend is not doing his assignment .This will be the worst case scenario as the supervisor now knows that your friend intent fully does not doing the assignment so that his excuses would not be accepted by him.
The best case is when you do his assignment on your own so that he does not cause any trouble for himself.
