Women, for the first time ever, took to the workforce in a massive way. It was the first big integration of female workers. Although a large majority of the female population still remained at home rather than in a factory, this is still considered the turning point for the female labor force. As most of the men either volunteered or were drafted for the war, it left most factory jobs struggling to find workers. However, outside of factory work, women also contributed largely to the rationing campaigns during ww1 commonly known as "wheat, meat, and sweet" as those were the targeted items the government encouraged you to save. for the first time, women also began serving in the military. Although this was limited to Navy Nurses, it later opens the door to female transport pilots during wwII
