On the subway 8 out of 11 people are carrying a brief case. Based on this information, if there are 700 people on the subway, then about how many do not have a bridefcase

total number of people    11 = 700

Use cross products to solve for x.

3 x 700 = 11x
2100 = 11x
11        11
x = 191 people

There are approximately 191 people not carrying briefcases.
