You use the Pythagorean Theorem to solve this
[tex] a^{2} + b^{2} = c^{2} [/tex]
c is the hypotenuse
a and b are bases
Put in the values you know
[tex] 1.8^{2} + 2.4^{2} = c^{2} [/tex]
Square the numbers
[tex]3.24 + 5.76 = c^{2} [/tex]
Add
[tex]9 = c^{2} [/tex]
Take the square root of both sides
3 = c
The answer is 3 miles
