Egypt decided to seize the canal to become more imperialistic to protect its independence and liberty.
The Americans and the British didn't want to finance Egypt's construction of the Aswan High Dam. Because of this, he seized control of the canal, used its profits from ships passing through the canal to pay for the dam's construction.
