Before the war with Mexico, Texas had been a part of their country. However, the Americans living in Texas refused to adhere to the Mexican ban on slavery. Therefore the American Texans declared war on Mexico and won. After its independence, Texas wanted to be a part of the United States. The south wholeheartedly accepted the annexation of Texas because it would add a very large slave state to the Union.
The answer would be D, Texas was a slave state. Since the South was also in favor of slaves, they wanted a large state in there support and favor to challenge the North.
