The Treaties of Utrecht, signed in Utrecht in the Dutch Republic, were negotiated after the War of the Spanish Succession. In the agreements signed with Great Britain, France agreed to the following:
1. France acknowledged Queen Anne as the rightful British monarch.
2. France would stop its support of James Edward, the son of the former king James II of England, who had been removed from the throne during the Glorious Revolution of 1688.
3. France conceded the Great Britain the Hudson Bay territory, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and the island of St. Kitts.
4. France would demolish its fortifications at Dunkirk. (They had attacked British shipping from there.)
