In this instance, the word shoot represented stopping the grandmother. She needed to be stopped and guided in another direction than where she ended up. The problem is that she has been corrupted by those in her life who shaped her beliefs from childhood. Now that she is an adult, the things that she say and does are irritating and burdening to many people. The grandmother is a product of her environment and she thinks that she is fine the way she is.
