Sodium is represented by the element Na
with an atomic number of 11 and a molar mass of 22.99 gram per mole. It is a
soft, silvery white, highly reactive metal. It is under Group 1A, an alkali
metal. It exists in numerous minerals such as feldspar, sodalite and rock salt.
Sodium ions have an affinity with water in that it is soluble. It has always
been leached by the action of water from the earth’s mineral eons ago causing a
salty taste tot the ocean.
