When the uprising against communism erupted in Hungary in 1956 Eisenhower did intervene. This was in line with is "New Look" foreign policy which was focused on more of a passive opposition. He did not want to use traditional military forces, but he fought communism by using nuclear weapons as a deterrent and using CIA to undertake covert operations. He was more focused on sustaining US economy and strengthening alliances with non aligned countries.
