An hour has 60 minutes so 2/3 an hour is 40 minutes, if Tim practices 3/4 of this time then you just set x/40=3/4, which simplifies to x=30, meaning he played for half an hour. You could have also multiplied (2/3)*(3/4) to get 6/12 which simplifies to 1/2
