When writing, it is always best to be as concise as possible in order to have your writing be the most impactful and best understood. Comprehension will always decrease for readers when more words a present. What this means is that you will always want to say what you need to say in as few words as possible but with as many words as necessary. With this in mind, when looking at the underlined words, “long works of fiction,” the word that best replaces this is “novels” because a novel is just that—a long work of fiction. This would be much like using the word “oceans” instead of saying “the water that covers about 70% the world.”
