Felix Mendelssohn Batholdy, a German musician who was prominent in the early romantic era was highly instrumental to the renewed interest in J.S Bach's work during that era through his 1829 Berlin performance of the St Matthew Passion. This performance was the setting off what is now known as the Bach Revival.
