The legacy of Ancient Rome is still felt today in western culture in areas such as government, law, language, architecture, engineering, and religion. Many modern-day governments are modeled after the Roman Republic. ... The Executive Branch (President) is similar to the elected consuls of Rome.
The "legacy of the Roman Empire" refers to the set of cultural values, religious beliefs, as well as technological and other achievements of Ancient Rome which were passed on after the demis of the empire itself and continued to shape other civilizations, a process which continues to this day. The city of Rome was the civitas, from which came the word "civilization" and consequently the actual western civilization on which is centered our contemporary world.
