I want to paint two rooms. One room has 3 walls that are 12 feet high and 16 feet wide. The other room has 2 walls that are 12 feet high and 12 feet wide and 2 walls that are 12 feet high and 14 feet wide. Assume I am only applying one coat of paint. Each can of paint will cover 600 sq ft. How many cans of paint do I need to buy?

Okay, find the area of the walls.

12*16= 192

192*3= 576 (for the 3-walled room) 

12*12= 144

144*2= 288

12*14= 168

168*2= 336

576+288+336= 1200 

Divide this by 600.

1200/600= 2

He needs 2 cans of paint.
