You can tell that a physical reaction has occurred if you can reverse the said reaction. This is because you did not essentially change its identity. The reaction only change its physical form. Example of physical reactions is evaporation, where liquid turns to gas. You can reverse this via condensation where the gas condensates as a liquid.
