I agree with the person above - the "father of modern Egypt" is considered to be Muhammad Ali.
He introduced many reforms into Egypt, most of which were quite drastic as opposed to the past rulers and their decision. His reforms included those in the military, economic and cultural spheres in his country, which is why is called that way.
