The Cherokee society was ruled by government just as white society, and the government units were separated into different units depending on what the Cherokees needed. The Cherokees had two governmental units. One was used for peacetime affairs and one for times of war. The white society also relied on their government units in order to handle different issues. The Cherokees lived in clans like how the white society lived in family units. The difference arose in who was in charge of the family structure. In white society, this was the man. In the Cherokee society, the women had more power.
