Political and economic crises can help candidates get elected if they present a stand that the majority of voters agree with and tell the voters what they want to hear. On the other hand, a political and economic crises can hinder a candidates chance for election if he opposes the majority opinion on major issues that the voters see as necessary or important.
Political candidates will use this to their advantage to prepare a persuasive excerpt to the public, expelling information and 'changes' that would be made by that candidate; things those in the crisis would want to hear.

A good example would be Adolf Hitler, the Chancellor of Germany.
When Germany was economically crushed after World War I, Adolf Hitler used this to his advantage to gain the upper hand by telling citizens that, if elected, he'd stabilize the economy and make 'Germany great again', though, we all know what came out of that.
