Given : After a week of rain, tadpoles appeared in your pond. After t minutes, you have [tex](7t + 5)[/tex] (i) tadpoles and your friend has [tex](8t - 3)[/tex] (ii)tadpoles.

a) Now, the expression that represents the number of tadpoles you and your friend caught together will be :-

[tex](7t + 5)+(8t - 3)\\\\=7t+5+8t-3\\\\=7t+8t+5-3\\\\=15t+2[/tex]

Hence, the required expression : [tex]15t+2[/tex]

b) At t=9 , number of tadpoles you have = [tex](7(9)+5)=68[/tex] (using (i))

Number of tadpoles you have = [tex](8(9)-3)=69[/tex] (using (ii))

Since , 69> 68

It means your friend has more tadpoles after 9 minutes.
