The ratio of men to women working for a company is 5 to 8 . 

for 5 men there is 8 women 

5men  /8 women      = ???men  / 224  women 

so cross multiplication 

n men = 224 x 5 /8  = 140 men

the number of employees = 140 men + 224 women = 364
