The rate of poverty in the United States has been steadily increasing since the year 2000. Poverty rates have grown at a 11.5% in 2000 to 15% in 2010, but dropped to nearly 12.5% in 2016. We should see the rate of poverty drop below the poverty rate in the year 2000 by the year 2020 if the percentage change continues to stay the same from year to year.
