Sickness and critics are 2.

Darwin was a very sick man. He was mentally and physically ill, which made it difficult to continue his studies. Critics of Darwin's work were some of the people closest to him, especially his wife. The church would drive him out of town if he came forward with his findings. Another challenge Darwin faced was himself. He fought out a constant battle with his own mind, contemplating if he should continue his work. The scientific community is very grateful for Darwin and what he went through to give us the theory of evolution.
