The Mexican independence resulted from the conflict between the Mexicans and Spanish. A catholic priest by the name of Miguel Hidalgo y Castilla led the Mexicans into a war with the Spanish, and he chose a perfect timing for this, when Napoleon was in war with Spain, so the Spanish troops were much weaker, and the Mexican managed to win and gain their independence. After the independence, the land owned by the big Spanish land owners was redistributed among the people, and also racial iquality was implemented into the Mexican society.
