The Spaniards stayed in the palace and Moctezuma handed them more gold and silver jewelry and woven clothes. But the Spaniards wanted more gold and took Moctezuma prisoner in his own palace, Moctezuma died on the roof stoned by his own people but another version says he died at the hands of the Spanish because he was no longer useful to them.
