Cortez still slaughtered the natives and took everything from them.
Answer: The messengers were ordered to convince the Spaniards to go to Cholula to entertain them and Cortes agreed, for a few days the Spaniards were there but then the information arrived that Moctezuma was going to ambush them and Cortes joined with Moctezuma's adversaries and attacked the city leaving 6000 dead. Cortes blamed this attack on the town of Cholula and decided to meet with Moctezuma. Cortes and some of his men arrived on horseback, with cannons, guns and hunting dogs which impressed Moctezuma and the men who accompanied him, about 200. Cortes handed a glass necklace to Moctezuma and tried to hug him but the Emperor's companions did not allow it. Moctezuma delivered a necklace of shells and shrimps to Gold. The Spaniards stayed in the palace and Moctezuma handed them more gold and silver jewelry and woven clothes. But the Spaniards wanted more gold and took Moctezuma prisoner in his own palace, Moctezuma died on the roof stoned by his own people but another version says he died at the hands of the Spanish because he was no longer useful to them.
