Greetings!

In this question, we will write an inequality for the given number line graphs.

Regarding inequalities for a number line graph:

  • Circle (point): If open, the number is not included (represented by either < or >). If closed, the number is included (represented by (≤ or ≥)
  • Arrow direction: If the arrow is pointed to the left, the inequality symbol will be pointed right (< or ≤). If the arrow is pointed to the right, the inequality symbol will be pointed left (> or ≥).

With this information, we could now answer our question.

Question 8:

We could see that the circle is opened, or hollow in the middle, which means that the number is not included, therefore we will use one of the < or > symbols.

Since the arrow direction is pointed to the right, we will use the symbol ">"

Therefore, in reference to our point in the line, which would be at 25, our inequality will be:

x > 25

Question 9:

Let us use the same process for this question.

We could see that the circle is closed, which means that the number is included, therefore we will use one of the ≤ or ≥ symbols.

Since the arrow direction is pointed to the left, we will use the symbol "≤"

Therefore, in reference to our point in the line, which would be at -2.75, our inequality will be:

x ≤ -2.75

Answer:

8) x > 25

9) x ≤ -2.75
