"If an electrically neutral atom has 4 protons and 4 neutrons and it gains 2 electrons, what is its electrical charge?"

I think it's +2 but I know electrons are negative charges so guess It might be -2?

Respuesta :

it would be an electronic charge of +2 because there are 4 protons and 2 electrons

Explanation:

When an atom is neutral then number of protons equal number of electrons. Therefore, a neutral atom with 4 protons and 4 neutrons will also have 4 electrons.

It is known that when an atom gain electrons then it acquires a negative charge and when an atom loses electrons then it acquires a positive charge.

Therefore, when the given neutral atom gains 2 electrons then it will acquire a negative charge.
