Science has identified some 2 million species of plants, animals and microbes on Earth. But scientists estimated that the number of total insects species fall as high as 30 million and as low as 2 million. So there are millions more left to discover, and new species are constantly discovered and described.
There are at least 900,000 species, but many more probably have yet to be discovered. Insects all have bodies consisting of a head, a thorax of three segments, usually three pairs of legs and often one or two pairs of wings. Their heads have compound eyes and long antennae that are sensitive to touch and smell.
