In the seventeenth century, there was one huge difference between the South and New England. The slavery developed in New England slower than in the South. In the late seventeenth century the Chesapeake population outnumbered the slaves by 95%. In the colonies it was cheaper to held servants than slaves. In the South instead, the slavery was growing and got huge. Compare to the North the slaves outnumbered the European population there. Also, the rights for the slave were different. They had more right in the Spain’s American empire than in the English North America. For example, had the slaves certain right in having properties or access to freedom and the North instead the slaves were suppressed by the law. All in all, the slavery in the Spanish empire had more right and outnumbered the one in New England by far.
