This is one of the great all-time novels, "To Kill a Mockingbird". The spectators all stand as Atticus Finch passes by.
Answer: A) they all stand as he passes by.
Towards the end of To Kill a Mockingbird, we witness the trial. Atticus, despite his great performance and hard work, is not able to persuade the jury to listen to evidence and let go of their prejudices. He loses, and Tom Robinson is convicted anyway. As Atticus is leaving the court house, however, the African American spectators stand as he passes by in order to show their respect. Even though he lost, they are aware of his hard work and good intentions.
