What happens if this TSG gets mutated?

  • TSGs encode proteins that often act as a growth inhibitor for cells.
  • The activation of genetic changes that result in cellular transformation causes this tightly controlled mechanism to become dysregulated.
  • On the other side, tumor suppressor genes limit cell cycle development. Genetic changes that result in their inactivation render them incapable of controlling cell division.

Thus, we can conclude that uncontrolled cell division may take place when a tumor suppressor gene is rendered inactive by a mutation, which prevents the production of the protein it encodes or impairs its correct function.
