The author's choice to tell the story from the children's perspectives is effective. The children do not have the same prejudices and concerns that the adults have. As a result, they are open to one another and become friends despite their differences. They provide the reader with unbiased insight into what is happening on the mainland and on Malaga Island.
The author chose to tell this story from the perspective of children, instead of that of the adults. This strategy proves to be effective for telling the instance of the injustice which was done towards the Malaga Island people.
This strategy was effective due to the below mentioned reasons:
• Children are more pure of heart and do not have any prejudices and concerns as most adults might have.
• This quality makes them more open to accepting other people without any discrimination and become friends despite being different from one another.
• This also helps in providing the readers with an account untainted by prejudices, about the happening of the Malaga Island and the mainland.
It is also a coming-of-age story as the main characters start out as children who are grown up by the end of the story.
