International event:

The Bay of Pigs Invasion took place on April 17, 1961. During this invasion, a CIA-sponsored rebel group tried to invade the island of Cuba. The invasion was intended to overthrow the government of President Fidel Castro. However, the CIA-sponsored counter-revolutionaries were defeated within three days.

Domestic event:

President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas. This occurred as he was riding in a presidential motorcade with his wife Jacqueline Kennedy, Governor John Connally and Connally's wife. The person responsible for the attack was former U.S. Marine Lee Harvey Oswald.
