If the variable a is a whole number and it is mtuplied by a decimal less than one the answer will be less than a because multiplying bya decimal less than one is similar to dividing or by multiplying by a fraction. An example of this would be cutting 10 in half is the same as divining it by 2 or by multiplying it by 1/2. Decimal form of 1/2 is 0.5 and all of those situations will result in an answer of 5. Soray if it's long winded and poorly I can think of a better way to explain it at the moment.
