Explanation
While walking the dog today, he walks 12 blocks in 45 minutes and the dog barks at 17 other dogs.
He then wants to walk 26 blocks tomorrow with the dog and we are told to predict the number of dogs that his dog would bark at.
a) The assumptions required to answer this question include
- The dog woud behave tomorrow like it did today.
- The distribution of dogs today on the 12 blocks walk will be the same type of dog distribution for the 26 block walk tomorrow.
b) The prediction now
Let the number of dogs that his dog will bark at tomorrow on the 26 block walk be x
12 blocks = 17 dogs
26 blocks = x dogs
We can write a mathematical relationship by cross multiplying
12 × x = 26 × 17
12x = 442
Divide both sides by 12
(12x/12) = (442/12)
x = 36.83 dogs = 37 dogs to the nearest whole number.
Hope this Helps!!!
