Dr. Sanchez is explaining about germinal stage. The earliest and shortest stage of the human lifespan is the germinal stage of development.
A total of eight to nine days pass during the germinal stage. When an ovum and a sperm combine to form a zygote in a Fallopian tube, it starts (day 0). The zygote continues to go through initial cell divisions throughout the germinal stage, forming a solid ball of cells known as a morula (days 3-4). The process then continues as the morula goes through more modifications to become a hollow ball of cells known as a blastocyst (days 5-7). The blastocyst implants in the uterine endometrium, marking the conclusion of the germinal stage (days 8-9). The blastocyst is known as an embryo after implantation and will soon receive nourishment from the mother's blood through a temporary organ called the placenta. Nutrients must, however, be taken from cell cytoplasm or secretions in the uterus or Fallopian tube during the germinal stage.
