An interest group is a team of people with the aim of influencing public policy as a result of common concern or interest.
Interest groups are alliances of persons or organisations that are often formally organised and that try to influence public policy in their favour based on one or more shared issues. They are also referred to as special interest groups, advocacy groups, or pressure groups. In order to further their causes or their own interests, all interest groups share the goal to influence governmental policy.
Their goal might be a policy that solely benefits a particular group of people or a certain sector of society (like government subsidies for farmers), or it might be a policy that advances a more general social objective (e.g., improving air quality). They strive to lobby in order to attain their objectives by applying pressure on decision-makers to alter policy outcomes in their favour.
