What was life like as an immigrant in the 1800s in the United States?

Some people viewed immigrants as an opportunity to have “cheap labor.” What does this mean?

(i) poor and sometimes dangerous

- miners

- working glass factories

- messengers

- shoe shiners

- peddlers

(ii) many immigrants suffered verbal and physical abuse because they were "different"

(iii) immigration increases labor force to enlarge the economy.This meant that they were a good use to enlarge the economy without having to pay anyone or make their people get in labor more.
