a) ans) The Unites states were obligated to help Cuba get away from Spain because they were being oppressed by the spanish. The Americans supported the ongoing struggle by Cubans and Filipinos against Spanish rule,and the mysterious explosion of the battleship U.S.S. Maine in Havana Harbour.

b)ans)The Unites states went to Cuba with he purpose of annexing it and making a profit off of it. The Caribbean Area had been a target of American imperialism because the south had been wanting it since the 1850s.
