One normal behavior in our modern society that would shock characters in the Story by Oscar Wilde- The Importance of Being Earnest is the fact that people today are also hypocritical as in the Victorian period.

The double lives of Algernon and Jack in "The Importance of Being Earnest"

Two of the lead characters in the play are:

  • Algernon and
  • Jack.

Both of them are shown to lead double lives. Algernon for instance lies about a chronically ill friend whom he uses as an excuse to escape the restrictions of his immediate environment.

Jack Worthing on the other hand creates a different person in every city he visits.
