Plants take in carbon from the atmosphere around them to use in photosynthesis. It is true that carbon dioxide is a reactant of photosynthesis, but a plant cannot create carbon. However, (because of the law of conservation) the carbon is still transferred to the animals that eat the plant. The carbon dioxide is broken down and separated into glucose and oxygen. This glucose and oxygen are the products of the reaction.
