A decoction of the dried seed is given in bleeding piles. A poultice of the seeds is applied in ulcers. In the Iranian folk medicine, coriander seed is used to give relief of anxiety and insomnia. Remarks: Coriander is an indispensable spice in the oriental as well as in continental cuisines.
Coriander grows wild over wide area of Western Asia and Southern Europe. About half a liter of coriander meriarps was recovered from the Tomb of Tutankhamen, and because this plant does not grow wild in Egypt, Zohary and Hopf interpret this find as proof that coriander was cultivated by ancient Egyptians.
