When was the last time you violated a norm? How were you sanctioned? What sorts of sanctions do we impose on those who go against our accepted cultural rules? Make a list of ways in which the media - including advertisements - reach you each day. How many of these media messages represent mainstream Western ideals? What kinds of media messages do not conform to these norms?
