While living in the secret annex, Anne Frank was under immense amounts of stress.  She couldn't go outside, she had to be silent for hours upon hours everyday, and one wrong move could lead to her, her family, the Van Pels, and Mr. Pfeffer getting killed or tortured.  Because of all of this stress, her relationships with people started going downhill, especially with her mother.  In one of her diary entries, Anne noted that "I can even imagine my mother dying one day.  But I can't imagine living without my father." So by reading that citation, one can see that she indirectly hinted toward her bad relationship with her mother at the time.
