People should care about the amount of production that takes place in the economy because it's important to know when starting a business. The main thing you need to know is known as Supply and Demand.

The amount of production within one's economy is important to the economy because of  the laws of supply and demand. If the production rate is low, then the supply of goods or services is not efficient and the demand cannot be reached. If the goal for demand is failed to be reached, then the economy will fail.
