Allen is building a birdhouse that requires 1/2 ft long boards. How many pieces that are exactly 1/2 ft long can be made from a board that is 8 1/4 ft long?

16. I put 81/4 into simplist form such as 33/4. I then divided 33 by 2 and got 16.5. so you can only get 16 pieces from 8  1/4
You can do it in decimal (which I find d easier) so you do 8.25 divided by .5 move the decimal from the .5 over which makes it 5 so then it would make it 82.5 divided by 5 which would equal 16.5 which made into a fraction equals 16 and a 1/2
