Based on the myth, power corrupts by someone else gaining power over the main leader/ruler of the kingdom. As the text says, “...if men had fire they might become strong and wise like ourselves, and after a while they would drive us out of our kingdom.” This explains how someone would gain their own power and can take advantage, by taking over the kingdom, being selfish.
