The relationships that are most likely to be causal are:
- A positive correlation between the number of homework assignments completed and the grade on the exam
- A positive correlation between the temperature in a canyon in the early spring and the number of snakes seen by hikers.
When are relationships causal?
A relationship is causal when one variable has a direct effect on another variable. For example, the number of assignments completed would have an effect on the grade on an exam because as a students compeletes his assingment he becomes more familiar with the course.
Positive correlation means that the two variables have a positive relationship with each other. If one of the variable increases, the other vairable increases.
